Immich, a self-hosted solution for backing up photos and videos that is open-source, has garnered a large following globally and recently hit a significant milestone of achieving 40,000 likes on GitHub. By way of comparison, the count was merely 1,000 back in April 2022.
In order to commemorate this accomplishment, developers have unveiled a new version, 1.110, that introduces several notable updates and features aimed at enhancing user experience and expanding the platform’s capabilities.
New Features in Immich v1.110
Self-Hosted Map Tiles: Immich has now started hosting its own map tiles at https://tiles.immich.cloud, moving away from relying on third-party providers. This transition is expected to deliver improved performance and reduce dependence on external services, ensuring a more seamless and rapid experience for users as they navigate maps in either light or dark mode.
Revised Buying Methods: In response to feedback from the community, the language surrounding how users can make purchases on Immich has been updated. Light-heartedly referred to as “The-Words-Which-Must-Not-Be-Named,” these adjustments include a clearer and more user-friendly approach to purchasing options and licensing. For example, a new “Buy” button will appear after an account has been active for more than 14 days, along with additional settings allowing users to temporarily or permanently hide this button.
In a previous version, 1.109, Immich had introduced the option for users to purchase a license to show support for the project. However, the software’s functionality remains unrestricted, regardless of whether a user possesses a license.
Acknowledging Supporters: Immich now features a mechanism for claiming product keys through a designated website to recognize the contributions made by past financial supporters. Additionally, supporters are now able to display a new supporter badge in their profiles, which can be hidden if desired.
Improved Security through TLS Client Certificates: With Immich 1.110, users can incorporate custom TLS certificates into the mobile application, enhancing security for individuals with specific network setups.
Utilizing Machine Learning and More: The update includes enhancements to machine learning capabilities, particularly with respect to ARM-NN and OpenVINO support, ensuring wider compatibility and enhanced performance across various hardware platforms.
The official announcement contains comprehensive details on all the innovations and enhancements that Immich 1.110 offers.
