The Manjaro Linux distribution, based on Arch, has been highly active as of late. With a recent website redesign and the initiation of an immutable version, the distro has launched a new stable update today, bringing fresh excitement to its worldwide user base.
This update cycle introduces crucial kernel upgrades from version 4.19 to the experimental 6.11.0 rc3, alongside real-time versions ensuring robust performance for essential applications. Significant updates have also been made to desktop environments:
- The KDE Frameworks have been raised to version 6.5.0, providing a more streamlined and efficient user experience.
- GNOME has progressed to version 46.4, and the Phosh mobile environment has been upgraded to 0.41.0, enhancing mobile compatibility and user interface elements.
The standout feature of this update is unquestionably the COSMIC desktop environment, now accessible to Manjaro users for the first time.
In its current 1.0-alpha version, COSMIC offers a more streamlined and customizable user experience, poised to revolutionize the desktop experience for users seeking efficiency and tailored customization, surpassing certain limitations imposed by GNOME.
Additionally, prominent application updates include Mesa 24.1.6 for enhanced graphics performance, Firefox 129.0.1, and Thunderbird 115.14.0 for web and email interactions. The update also enriches OpenGamepadUI and Inputplumber, elevating device interaction and control.
Finally, in an effort to expand its hardware range, Manjaro now provides the “Hero” gaming laptop, pre-installed with Manjaro. Alongside hardware offerings, a new collaboration with Surfshark VPN grants Manjaro users an additional three months of their service for free.
