Sony has unveiled the upgraded PlayStation 5 Pro gaming console, set to launch on November 7, 2024, for $700.

The new PS5 Pro boasts a boosted graphics card with 67% more compute units than the current standard PS5 model. This enhancement enables up to 45% faster rendering of gameplay. Additionally, Sony highlighted the console’s advanced artificial intelligence capabilities for upscaling graphics to deliver sharper image clarity and more detailed visuals.

One of the key features of the PS5 Pro is its “advanced” ray tracing, a sophisticated computer graphics technique that replicates how light interacts with reflective surfaces.

According to Sony, the PS5 Pro will come equipped with a 2-terabyte solid-state drive, which is notably larger than the 825 GB SSD found in the current PS5. The console will include Sony’s DualSense Wireless Controller and support Wi-Fi 7. An Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive will be available for separate purchase.

Several games will be designated as “PS5 Pro Enhanced,” offering features optimized for the new console. Some of the titles include “Alan Wake 2,” “Assassin’s Creed Shadows,” “Demon’s Souls,” “Dragon’s Dogma 2,” “Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth,” “Gran Turismo 7,” “Hogwarts Legacy,” “Horizon Forbidden West,” “Marvel’s Spider-Man 2,” “Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart,” and “The Last of Us Part II Remastered.”

Sony’s announcement of the refreshed PS5 Pro comes at a time when global console sales are declining. In the first quarter of this fiscal year, Sony sold 2.4 million units of the PlayStation 5, a decrease from 3.3 million in the same period last year.
