A matter of hours ago, Focus Entertainment’s official Twitter/X account unveiled the fact that Warhammer 40K Space Marine 2 has already moved two million copies.
The greatly awaited follow-up was just released yesterday, indicating that a significant portion of the sales may be from pre-orders. During a conversation at Gamescom 2024, Saber Interactive’s Chief Creative Officer Tim Willits, a seasoned industry professional, mentioned:
We’re very satisfied with its current state. We’re content with the work we’ve done, and the players who tried the preview were content. Preorders look promising. Presently, our focus is on September 9th, ensuring that the servers are operational for everyone, resolving any issues, but everything seems to be in order; everything is on track. The game is enjoyable and stable, so yes, I’m enthusiastic about the launch.
Initial user feedback on Steam has been mostly positive. However, our own Chris Wray wasn’t completely taken with Warhammer 40K Space Marine 2, awarding the game a 7 out of 10 in his evaluation:
Overall, while Warhammer 40K Space Marine 2 is not a poor game by any means – it excels in what it sets out to do – I didn’t derive much enjoyment from it. The repetitive nature of combat, especially with the constraints pushing you towards repeated execution spam, was the primary reason for this. There’s a compelling story set in a breathtaking environment, both narratively and visually, that will likely keep you engaged if you’re similar to me. All things considered, it’s not a bad game at all and a commendable sequel. It’s a decent game, though one that can feel monotonous fairly quickly, yet fans of this style of action combat may find it enjoyable.
The developers have already committed to an extensive post-launch plan, introducing plenty of new content along with performance-boosting features like NVIDIA DLSS3 and AMD FSR 3.
