An unofficial benchmark of the PlayStation 5 Pro that surfaced recently sheds light on the enhanced gaming experience this upcoming console will offer.

A developer, who chose to remain anonymous, shared early testing footage with Moore’s Law is Dead, showcasing a comparison of their game running on both the base model and the Pro version. The footage displayed varying framerates and dynamic resolution ranges. On the base model, the game operated between 45 and 60 frames per second with a resolution range of 1080p-1600p. In contrast, the PlayStation 5 Pro exhibited a higher resolution range of 1600p-2160p, featured maximum settings, and achieved a consistent 60 FPS with no drop in performance. The developer expressed interest in exploring 4K resolution and 120 Hz modes in future developments.

In addition to the benchmark footage, the unnamed developer also provided insights into some key features of the PlayStation 5 Pro. The console introduces an 8K option, currently confirmed for Gran Turismo 7, and benefits from an extra 1.2 GB of RAM through a Memory System Efficiency system. Documentation from Sony suggests a practical bandwidth increase exceeding 28%. Furthermore, the High CPU Frequency Mode offers a boost of 10% in CPU performance and slightly below 1.5% in GPU performance, granting developers more flexibility in optimization.

Notably, the PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution upscaler has seen improvements with the latest version 9.4 update. This AI-driven upscaler enhances image quality compared to its predecessor, version 9.0, while efficiently utilizing only 250MB of RAM. The system’s memory allocation appears to be well-balanced, with Sony ensuring sufficient usable RAM for optimal performance, as noted by the developer.

Despite the promising advancements highlighted in the leaked benchmark, the technical presentation of the PlayStation 5 Pro lacked detailed information. It is hoped that Sony will soon provide a comprehensive overview of how the console will elevate gaming experiences. While the initial footage may not have been overly impressive, a clearer understanding of the console’s increased specifications and the capabilities of the PSSR upscaler could sway more users towards investing in the system.
