Bungie’s Marathon could debut with a $40 price tag.

Amidst the turmoil within Bungie, the game developer has found itself in a state of chaos, with uncertain future plans in the wake of the Destiny franchise. A recent report suggests that Bungie’s upcoming extraction shooter Marathon could potentially be a premium-priced game, coming in at the same cost as the unsuccessful Concord.

According to sources cited in a report by The Game Post, there are indications that “Bungie is contemplating a $40 launch price for Marathon”. This price point mirrors that of Concord, which faced challenges as a live-service shooter. This decision raises concerns about the wisdom of replicating a similar pricing strategy.

On the other hand, the highly profitable live service shooter Helldivers 2, developed by Sony, also launched at $40 and achieved remarkable success by selling over 12 million copies within a few months. Thus, the pricing strategy for Marathon could prove to be a risky but potentially rewarding move.

Diverging from the hero shooter format of Concord, Marathon offers a distinct gameplay experience with class-based “heroes”, each equipped with unique abilities and playstyles, including a special ability exclusive to each class.

Given the current volatile state of affairs at Bungie, it is important to note that these details surrounding Marathon are subject to change before the game’s eventual launch. Only time will reveal the final shape of this anticipated release.
