A group of Japanese players is calling on Ubisoft to halt the release of Assassin’s Creed Shadows.

There is a growing sentiment among a faction of Japanese players that Ubisoft should abandon the launch of Assassin’s Creed Shadows.

The group of gamers from Japan have raised concerns about the upcoming game, which was initially known as Assassin’s Creed: Red before its announcement in May of this year.

In light of the unveiling of Shadows, discussions on social media have revolved around Ubisoft’s choice of main characters for the game. Not only has the issue of character representation sparked debate, but a segment of Japanese players has also criticized the game for its perceived lack of historical accuracy and cultural sensitivity from Ubisoft.

A petition has been started on Charge.org by the Japanese players, demanding that Ubisoft cancel the release of the title.

The creators of the petition expressed their concerns about the game’s portrayal of Japanese samurai, highlighting what they perceive as a disregard for the historical context and the role of samurai in Japanese society.

The petition emphasizes the importance of accurate representation of Japanese history and culture and raises concerns about potential racist implications resulting from the misinterpretation of the samurai class.

As of now, the petition has garnered over 28,300 signatures, with a target of reaching 35,000 signatures. Notably, more than 13,500 signatures were added to the petition today alone.

Although the impact of the petition on the release of Assassin’s Creed Shadows remains uncertain, it presents a significant challenge for Ubisoft to address these concerns raised by a substantial number of supporters.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows is scheduled to be released on November 12 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, featuring a portion of Japan in a map size reminiscent of Assassin’s Creed: Origins.
