Acer’s latest Chromebook Plus variant could be the budget-friendly laptop avid gamers have been anticipating.

Today marks a significant day for the Chromebook Plus lineup. Not only are the laptops gaining access to Google’s Gemini AI, but we’re also seeing the introduction of new models.

One example is the Asus Chromebook Plus CX34, which only receives a slightly upgraded processor and a brighter screen. However, Acer has implemented more substantial enhancements. One model is geared towards cloud gaming, while another is tailored for work productivity.

The Chromebook Plus 516 GE, starting with the former, is equipped with a 13th-Gen Intel Core i7 processor and an integrated Intel graphics card. While this configuration may not typically be ideal for gaming, each unit comes with NVIDIA GeForce NOW to compensate for the lack of power. This service allows for streaming of video games as though they are running on a GeForce RTX 4080 GPU, provided you have the appropriate subscription plan.

Games will be displayed on the 16-inch WQXGA (2,560 x 1,600 pixels) screen with a 120Hz refresh rate, enabling smooth and responsive gameplay. The display also covers the full sRGB color gamut for vivid visuals. The laptop is equipped with four speakers – two upward and two downward firing – delivering immersive audio for the user.

The keyboard features a colorful RGB backlight that can be customized in various color modes, along with “anti-ghosting technology” to ensure accurate key inputs.

Other notable features of the Chromebook Plus 516 GE include a 10-hour battery life, up to a 2TB SSD, and 16GB of RAM.

Get the Job Done

The second model, the Acer Chromebook Plus Spin 714, is a convertible laptop that can transform into a tablet by fully reclining the screen. With a 14-inch display offering a resolution of 1,920 x 1,200 pixels, this model also covers the entire sRGB color spectrum like its counterpart. Notably, Acer has equipped this device with “Antimicrobial Corning Gorilla Glass” to resist scratches and bacteria.

The Chromebook Plus Spin 714 will come in various configurations, with the base model featuring an Intel Core Ultra 7 chipset, a 512GB SSD, and 16GB of RAM. All versions include a 1440p Quad HD webcam for clear video calls. Additionally, Acer’s TNR Solution software will enhance video quality in low-light settings.

Audio quality is not overlooked, as the device is equipped with dual microphones for clear audio capture and upward-facing speakers that support DTS Audio, providing distortion-free sound.

Acer has announced that the Chromebook Plus 516 GE will debut in North America for $699.99. The Chromebook Plus Spin 714 will have wider availability at $749.99 in North America and €979 in Europe.

The initial post suggests that both models will be launched by the end of the month, however, no listings were found at the time of this article. Queries have been made to determine the exact release date of these laptops. Any new information will be added to this piece accordingly.
