Amazon Web Services (AWS) has announced a significant investment of over €1.2 billion ($1.3 billion) in its French operations, which will have a major impact on the country’s economy and job market. This funding is expected to result in the creation of more than 3,000 permanent jobs across various sectors in France, in addition to the 2,000 roles previously announced by the company.

The news of Amazon’s investment comes at a time when France is focusing on attracting foreign investments through initiatives like ‘Choose France’. Other companies, such as GSK and Accenture, are also expected to unveil substantial investments in the country, coinciding with the upcoming 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

AWS and ‘Choose France’

Amazon’s investment in France includes plans to strengthen its cloud infrastructure in the Paris area to support the country’s growing AI sector. Additionally, the funding will expand its logistics infrastructure in the Auvergne-RhΓ΄ne-Alpes region. This move is part of Amazon’s commitment to investing over €20 billion ($21.6 billion) in cash injections since 2010.

France has been gaining recognition as a favorable location for AI businesses, with startups like Mistral and Poolside originating from the country, and tech giants like Meta and Google establishing their own centers there. The country’s research landscape, government support, clean energy initiatives, and strategic European location have made it an ideal destination for tech investments.

A portion of Amazon’s latest investment in France will also be allocated towards reducing carbon emissions, aligning with both the country’s environmental initiatives and the company’s sustainability goals. This initiative reflects a broader trend of businesses prioritizing eco-friendly practices.
