Jennifer Lopez hasn’t encountered reviews like this since Gigli. Her latest movie, Atlas, may be dominating the Netflix streaming movie charts. However, it won’t be hailed as the critics’ movie of the year. Currently holding a dismal 19% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes and a rather mediocre 50% from viewers, despite being a unique blend of Terminator and Neon Genesis Evangelion.

The New York Times describes the sci-fi drama as “pure pastiche” at times. They comment, “It appears, in a manner we are becoming accustomed to on streaming platforms, quite cheap, dark, plasticky, and artificial, particularly in the major action sequences.” The San Francisco Chronicle is equally unimpressed. They state, “Imagine two hours of Lopez attempting to deadlift 1,000 pounds, and you’d grasp what Atlas entails.” Nevertheless, the We’re Watching What? podcast encapsulates it best by saying, “Genuinely concerned this film was scripted by someone under the control of a hostile AI.”
