Bandai Namco ceases Blue Protocol prior to its set debut in the Western market together with Amazon.
Despite its impressive appearance, the anime-style MMO, Blue Protocol, by Bandai Namco will no longer see a full launch. Teaming up with Amazon Games to introduce the game to the western audience this year, the decision to cancel the game entirely came after receiving feedback from the Japanese player base, where the game was already available.
Plans to bring Blue Protocol to the West have been scrapped, and the current Japanese servers are set to be deactivated, despite initial intentions to launch the game in the near future. While the game successfully captured the anime aesthetic, the development team no longer believes it can fulfill its goal of immersing each player into the role of the protagonist in a fantasy anime adventure.
Bandai Namco’s statement regarding the halt included: “We regret to inform you that the Japanese version of Blue Protocol will be discontinued on Saturday January 18, 2025. As a result, we have also canceled our plans to release a Western version of the game in collaboration with Amazon Games.”
The company further explained their decision: “We understand the immense anticipation for Blue Protocol since its initial announcement. Our aim was to provide an immersive anime-like experience, where every player could partake in adventures as the central figure of the anime. Despite our diligent preparation for the launch, we have concluded that offering a service satisfying to all is not feasible. We sincerely apologize for the abrupt revelation.”
