Bungie Commemorates a Decade of Destiny with Celebrations and Unveils Information Regarding Codename: Frontiers

On this significant day, Bungie and enthusiasts of Destiny are celebrating a milestone as the series turns a decade old. Originating on September 9, 2014, Destiny was unleashed by Bungie, offering a science fiction massively multiplayer online game where players could embody Guardians and traverse the digital universe. Merely three years later, Destiny was succeeded by Destiny 2, initially launched as a paid game but eventually transitioning to a free-to-play model in 2019. Throughout the years, Destiny 2 has seen numerous expansions like Curse of Osiris, Warmind, Forsaken, and The Witch Queen, with the latest expansion, The Final Shape, serving as the catalyst for transforming the seasonal structure. To commemorate this franchise anniversary, players can partake in acquiring nostalgic in-game armor and physical merchandise while also enjoying art displays to bask in the nostalgia. Furthermore, Bungie has divulged insights into Codename: Frontiers, the future trajectory of Destiny 2.

The fate of Destiny 2 holds impending modifications with the introduction of two moderately sized expansions and four sizable free content updates on an annual basis. This transformation aims to enrich the player journey by introducing a nonlinear storytelling approach, granting players the liberty to forgo expansion purchases if they prefer. Additionally, enhancements are on the horizon for core gameplay activities and the reward mechanism.

Players can anticipate witnessing these alterations under the new model, commencing with Codename Apollo, an interactive and character-focused escapade marking the initial installation of the fresh expansion format, set to debut in the summer of 2025.

To ensure the community remains informed, Bungie will initiate a Developer Insight Deep Dives series over the ensuing months. Additionally, Bungie has released a comprehensive blog post chronicling Destiny’s extensive journey and is hosting an art showcase in prominent cities like LA, New York City, and London, with free admission for all attendees.

Enthusiasts of Destiny can embrace the nostalgia by acquiring a newly designed class-specific armor set inspired by the original concepts from Destiny. To acquire these armor sets, players must venture to the Tower in the Lost City within The Pale Heart.

For players who invested in The Final Shape expansion, unlocking the Legend title in Destiny 2 is possible by completing The Final Shape Legendary campaign, donning the anniversary armor during specified activities, exploring the Pale Heart region, and fulfilling specific objectives. Those achieving this feat before September 24 will gain early access through Bungie Rewards to obtain the newly released NERF LMTD Destiny 2 Ace of Spades Blaster ahead of the official release on October 8.

Despite Destiny’s decade-long journey, this fresh expansion approach could potentially extend its longevity by another decade.
