Capcom Records a 44% Decrease in Revenue for First Quarter of Financial Year 2025

The financial overview for the initial quarter of the fiscal year, culminating on March 31, 2025, has been disclosed by Capcom. The assessment demonstrates a considerable decline in sales as opposed to the same period last year.

Despite the substantial decline in revenue, the company asserts that “all sectors exceeded the company’s projections.” The net revenue plummeted by 32.5% this year, with digital content net sales experiencing a 43.5% decrease year-over-year. Furthermore, their net profit has dropped by 45.1% year-on-year, accumulating to $64.7 million.

Concerning the downturn in digital content net sales, the corporation attributed the decline to the dominance of titles launched in prior years like Street Fighter 6 and Dragon’s Dogma 2, with their 2024 new releases anticipated in the latter half of the year.

Capcom managed to vend 9.53 million game copies during this timeline compared to the 13.5 million in the corresponding quarter of the previous year. Nonetheless, the release of Street Fighter 6 during this period significantly boosted Capcom’s sales.

While game sales experienced a noteworthy decline, Arcade Operations saw an increase of 18%, and Amusement Equipment skyrocketed by 147% compensating for the dip.

Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin, which debuted in 2021, sustained strong sales during this financial quarter. Capcom observed the game attaining two million units sold during this period and noted that the Monster Hunter franchise has collectively sold over 100 million copies worldwide.

Monster Hunter Now, a collaboration with Niantic, exhibited strong performance with over 15 million downloads.

Capcom proclaimed that its “progress towards fulfilling the annual goal remained broadly in accordance with plans,” specifically in terms of digital content sales.

Recently, Capcom launched Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess, reminiscent of their renowned title Okami. The game has garnered exceptionally positive feedback from players.

Looking ahead, Capcom anticipates achieving $1.07 billion in net revenue for the fiscal year ending on March 31, 2025, signifying an 8.3% increase year-over-year.

Capcom has pending releases such as Ace Attorney Investigations Collection, previously exclusive to Japan. The Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster is scheduled for October 2024. Moreover, games like Monster Hunter Wilds are lined up for a 2025 release and have the potential to be among Capcom’s most significant launches, especially considering the franchise’s extensive history of unit sales.
