Developers have officially recognized that the intended frame rate during production aimed for 30 frames per second.
During a discussion held with members of the Iron Lords Podcast, Matt Hansen, the Art Director, and Ryan Warden, the Production Director, engaged in a conversation about Avowed and what gamers could anticipate from the upcoming release. One of the most unexpected revelations from the conversation was the revelation that their objective during development for Avowed was 30 FPS uniformly. Given that Avowed is a first-person action RPG, this figure has caught many off guard. While some individuals are supporting their assertion, suggesting that a game like this doesn’t necessarily demand 60 FPS, others firmly advocate for 60 FPS as the minimum standard.
As of now, there hasn’t been a definitive statement on whether the game will be capable of running at 60 FPS, but it has been communicated that Avowed will achieve 30 FPS with numerous visual effects in place to enhance the game’s appeal.
Similar to a previous article we penned about Avowed, there are both macro and micro conclusions for players to pursue. Enthusiasts eager to delve into the game now understand that the concluding slides have surpassed double figures. However, the exact number of macro conclusions remains unconfirmed, with a multitude of variations. As per the interview, there are well over 50 iterations for players to discover.
In the realm of Avowed, players will embody the Envoy from the Aedyrian Empire, who is dispatched on a mission to the Living Lands to probe the Soul Plague. While this narrative unfolds in the same universe as Pillars of Eternity, the two storylines aren’t directly intertwined. Nonetheless, engaging with Pillars of Eternity does provide the opportunity to garner additional context for Avowed.
The discussion with the developers delved into other crucial aspects of Avowed, such as the absence of a traditional class system. Instead, players are granted full autonomy to explore abilities as they see fit, blending and combining skills from various classes to forge the hybrid class that aligns with their preferences. This fosters a myriad of approaches for players to experience the game, affording them the liberty to craft a playstyle that befits their journey through Avowed.
The comprehensive interview spans over thirty minutes, dissecting a myriad of pivotal elements of Avowed, including the setbacks the game encountered, the elaborate world-building efforts, and the endeavor to depict it as richly populated and immersive as conceivable.
It remains to be witnessed whether the developers of Avowed will take heed of the diverse opinions on the 30 FPS decision for the game, but there exists the potential that they might eventually address it or commence tailoring the game to operate at a higher frame rate for those seeking a smoother gameplay experience.
