Despite the recent postponement to February 18, 2025, Obsidian Entertainment continues to unveil more of its forthcoming title, Avowed. It was recently revealed that the game will include a multitude of endings, and the studio has also confirmed the targeted frame rate of 30 frames per second on Xbox consoles.

YouTuber Enfant Terrible has now shared over a sixty-minute gameplay video (available in stunning 4K resolution) demonstrating three unique character classes players can choose from in Avowed: Blood Mage, Barbarian, and Ranger. This action RPG, set in Eora – the world of Pillars of Eternity, features a classless system, giving players the freedom to customize their main character to fit their preferences while still allowing for specific playstyles.

During Gamescom 2024, Obsidian was interviewed by the Iron Lords Podcast. Art Director Matt Hansen and Production Director Ryan Warden shed light on one of the less discussed systems in Avowed: the radial wheel, which enables players to pause time and strategize their next moves, particularly in coordination with companions.

Ryan Warden: We also offer abilities that can be bound to the d-pad, allowing for quick execution of actions during combat. Whether you wish to swiftly use an ability or enhance your combat experience, you can easily map them to the d-pad. For instance, you can command Kai to draw enemy attention with “Fire and Ire,” acting as a tank. Each companion possesses four active abilities, presenting the need for strategic choices on button mapping to suit your playstyle.

Matt Hansen: In addition, each ability comes with a range of upgrades that significantly alter its functionality. Players can explore various ways to build and combine their companions. The synergy between characters like Kai and Marius differs from that of Giatta and Yatzli, emphasizing the importance of teamwork in the game.

As previously mentioned, the release date for Avowed is now scheduled for mid-February on PC and Xbox Series S|X. However, with Microsoft’s confirmation of the PlayStation 5 launch window for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, there is a growing possibility of the game being available on that platform in the future.

PCs are expected to provide the most optimal experience. Obsidian has teamed up with NVIDIA to incorporate support for NVIDIA DLSS 3 and ray tracing, although specific enhancements from ray tracing are yet to be disclosed.
