Closure of Sole in the Shadows developer by Embracer Consortium

2024 is undeniably the moment of workforce reductions with all sorts of corporations everywhere laying off employees or at worst closing entire studios. Regrettably, among the expanding list is Pieces Interactive – the creators behind the recent Alone in the Dark Reboot.

Issuing a statement on their blog, the team revealed an image of the studio’s emblem alongside the message “2007-2024: Thanks For Playing With Us.”

For those unfamiliar, the team also shared what seems like a memorial for the studio, portraying themselves as follows:

“Pieces Interactive launched more than ten titles on PC, Console and Mobile since 2007, including our original creations like Puzzlegeddon, Fret Nice, Leviathan Warships, Robo Surf and Kill to Collect, as well as commissioned projects such as Magicka 2 and various DLCs for Magicka. Our clientele includes Paradox Interactive, Koei Tecmo, Arrowhead Game Studios, Koch Media and RaceRoom Entertainment.”

Revealing more about the journey that led to this point, the team added “In 2017, Pieces Interactive was acquired by Embracer Group following collaborations on the expansion for Titan Quest, Titan Quest: Ragnarök and the third expansion for Titan Quest, Titan Quest: Atlantis. Our latest release was the reinterpretation of Alone in the Dark.”

Merely mentioning the words Embracer Group evokes a bitter taste for many, and thus while this announcement isn’t unexpected, it is deeply disheartening – especially considering Alone in the Dark only launched a few months back.
