Dan Gniady, a former standout at Bungie, is spearheading the development of the upcoming “Halo adventure”. Microsoft’s Halo studio, 343 Industries, brought Gniady on board as the new lead game designer earlier this year. While specifics about this Halo project remain under wraps, a noteworthy tidbit on Gniady’s LinkedIn profile mentions his involvement in directing a Halo “journey” that involves restoring the Covenant’s destructive power. Before joining 343 Industries, Gniady held the role of Lead Gameplay Designer at Sega’s Creative Assembly, where he contributed to the shelved project Hyenas. His tenure at Bungie, spanning nearly a decade, saw him serve in various capacities including producer for the original Destiny game and its expansions, as well as Destiny 2 and its initial expansion – The Curse of Osiris. Apart from his producer role, Gniady also played a vital part as a Gameplay Designer on Destiny 2: Warmind, Forsaken, the Black Armory weapon foundry, Season of the Drifter, Shadowkeep, and Beyond Light.

While Microsoft has not yet officially announced a new Halo title, rumors have been circulating. An industry journalist mentioned that 343 Industries is actively developing a new entry in the Halo franchise using Unreal Engine. “They do have a team [at 343 Industries] working on the next Halo campaign,” stated Ains, editor-in-chief of Seasoned Gaming. “It is part of that restructuring that is building the next generation of Halo on Unreal [Engine].” Additionally, a former art director at 343 Industries hinted at involvement in the development of the “next” Halo game, potentially utilizing Unreal Engine 5.
