AGI has introduced the first commercially viable 2TB microSD card, surpassing SanDisk, Lexar, Samsung, and Kioxia in the race.
Major tech giants have been hinting at cards with this capacity for some time – Kioxia was the first to announce a 2TB card for 2022 – but none have hit the market yet.
While numerous 2TB microSD cards are available for purchase on eBay, Amazon, and Aliexpress, they are unfortunately counterfeits- however, AGI’s 2TB Supreme Pro TF138 microSD card is indeed authentic, a fact confirmed through our testing.
Slightly less than 2TB
The Supreme Pro TF138 is offered in both 1TB and 2TB capacities, and while acquiring the 1TB variant online is relatively straightforward, obtaining the 2TB version is much more challenging.
The Supreme Pro TF138 comes bundled with an SD card adapter and card reader for USB-C ports and is pre-configured in exFAT format. In our evaluation, it actually delivers 1,935,140,716,544 bytes, which falls 12% short of the 2,199,023,255,552 bytes a 2TB card should provide, yet it remains a remarkable capacity in such a compact form factor.
The emphasis of the card lies more on its size than performance, boasting maximum quoted read/write speeds of 170/160 MB/s with the included CR138 card reader.
Curious about the price of the world’s inaugural 2TB microSD card? Us too. Regrettably, despite physically handling the product and conducting thorough tests, we are unable to disclose where to make a purchase, or – just as crucially – its potential cost. The 1TB version on Newegg was listed at $66.99, down from the MSRP of $99.99, which might offer a hint.
AGI’s 2TB card is theoretically currently available for purchase, so with enough persistence, you should be able to secure one, though be cautious as you may encounter some counterfeits along the way.
