The necessity for video game developers to withdraw their games from digital storefronts due to expiring licensing agreements has been a recurring challenge. Racing games, in particular, encounter this issue frequently. Fans of the Forza series had hoped that Forza Horizon 4, released in 2018, would evade this fate, given previous assurances from Microsoft. Regrettably, the game is now slated for delisting later this year.

Playground Games, in a blog post, made the announcement, stating: “Due to licensing agreements with our partners, Forza Horizon 4 will be removed from digital platforms (Microsoft Store and Steam) on December 15, 2024. As a result, the game and its additional content will no longer be purchasable through online stores.”

Although certain achievements may become unattainable, the team reassured players that “existing owners of the game and its content will retain the ability to download and enjoy it as usual, including its offline, online, and multiplayer components. Physical copies bought after this deadline will also function and grant access to online functionalities.”

Despite a Forza representative’s statement back in late 2022 affirming that “we have no plans to remove Forza Horizon 4 anytime soon!” the outcome, a year and a half later, still comes as a disappointment. It appears that nearly all racing games ultimately face a similar conclusion.
