An updated leak has provided insight into upcoming AMD motherboards and processors. Confirming speculation that AMD would skip the 700-series designation for its next batch of motherboards, the leak also unveiled the initial lineup of Ryzen 9000 series CPUs.

The presentation from Gigabyte, shared by @wxnod, indicates that the Gigabyte X870 Aorus Master AM5 motherboards will be compatible with current Ryzen 7000 (Raphael) and 8000 (Hawk Point) processors. However, the primary focus of the presentation is on the upcoming Ryzen 9000 (Granite Ridge) series, which will include four variants: the Ryzen 5 9600X, Ryzen 7 9700X, Ryzen 9 9900X, and Ryzen 9 9950X.

According to Gigabyte’s presentations, the Granite Ridge CPUs will come with default DDR5-5600 memory support, capable of handling up to 8000 MT/s memory with EXPO overclocking profiles. Moreover, the Infinity Fabric clock speed has been doubled from 2000 to 2400 MHz.

Regarding motherboards, Gigabyte is preparing to release a series of motherboards for the Granite Ridge lineup, including an AI TOP series for the AM5 socket and a minimum of four new chipsets. The X670E and X670 chipsets will be succeeded by the X870E and X870, respectively. Both X870 chipsets will support PCIe Gen5 x16 and at least one PCIe Gen5 SSD, along with features like an optimized WiFi antenna, USB4 capability, and UHBR20-compliant DisplayPort 2.1. The key distinction between the two X870 chipsets appears to be the usage of two Promontory 21 chips on the X870E versus one on the X870.

Shifting to the mid-range chipsets, the B650E and B650 chipsets are set to be replaced by the B850 and B840, respectively. This introduction of the X40 class to AMD’s lineup will utilize a distinct chipset (Prom19) compared to the higher-tier boards. A notable difference between the B850 and B840 is that the B840 lacks CPU overclocking support, although both will support memory overclocking. Furthermore, the B840 won’t be compatible with PCIe Gen5. Finally, the A620 and A620A chipsets are expected to remain unchanged as entry-level options.

The roster of motherboards mentioned in the presentation includes:

  • X870E Aorus Xtreme AI Top
  • X870E Aorus Pro Ice
  • X870 Aorus Elite WiFi
  • X870I Aorus Pro
  • B850 AI Top
  • B850M DS3H
  • B850M Aorus Elite AX
  • B840 D2H

AMD is anticipated to unveil the Ryzen 9000 series at Computex next week. Gigabyte and other motherboard manufacturers are likely to showcase their new boards at the event.
