Unity is the upcoming big risk taken by PlayStation Studios. Scheduled for release later this month, the multiplayer-centered live service champion shooter hasn’t received the most enthusiastic feedback during its testing phase. Nonetheless, the crew at Firewalk Studios seem dedicated for the long haul – unveiling their debut strategies and plans for the future.

Shared through the PlayStation Blog, Ryan Ellis – the Game Director for Unity – stated “With Unity’s debut next week on August 23, we wanted to discuss the journey that awaits. We view the launch as just the commencement. The beginning not only of the vision we’ve laid out for Unity but also the commencement of how we nurture and expand the game with our players.”

Termed as “a base for us to evolve over time,” Ellis outlined the team’s plans for Unity’s initial Season, mentioning “Our first significant content release will occur in October with the introduction of Unity Season 1: The Tempest. Season 1 will signify the debut of a new playable Freegunner, along with a new map, fresh Freegunner Variants, more attainable cosmetics and rewards, and a fresh season of weekly Cinematic Vignettes that will progress the storyline of the Northstar crew.”

As expected, Season 1 will also bring in an in-game mart, enabling players to “customize their Freegunners further with extra customization items and to continue to back the game.”

Moreover, Unity has already been confirmed to receive a second Season in January 2025, “and more seasonal releases throughout year one of Unity” – yet no additional details were disclosed.

With numerous seasons already committed to arrive in 2025, it’ll be intriguing to observe whether Unity faces a similar scenario to the commercial disappointments of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.
