Wireless earbuds have transformed into indispensable accessories for individuals engaged in various activities like music enthusiasts, scholars, and professionals. Although wired earphones have been prevalent for years, the introduction of wireless earbuds swiftly altered people’s behaviors owing to the freedom of movement, effortless connectivity, and an array of features integrated into their sleek design.

The Galaxy Buds series by Samsung sets itself apart from other wireless earbuds in the market with its superior sound quality, comfortable fit, and an intelligent sound experience driven by Galaxy AI. Samsung Newsroom revisited the journey of the Galaxy Buds series — a device that has become a fundamental accessory alongside smartphones.

Emphasizing the Basics: Commencement of Galaxy Wireless Earbuds

In February of 2019, Samsung unveiled the wireless Galaxy Buds tailored for individuals valuing a more convenient and vibrant lifestyle. Enhanced with a glossy finish and rounded design, the wearable was compact enough to effortlessly slip into the user’s pocket. The earbuds could also be secured with wingtips once inserted in the ear, preventing them from slipping out during intensive workouts.

However, the standout feature was the sound quality — the core aspect of earbuds. Samsung focused on enriching the audio to provide users with crystal-clear sound regardless of their surroundings. The Galaxy Buds incorporated technology from Harman’s premium audio brand AKG to deliver an immersive auditory experience replicating the original sound. The Adaptive Dual Microphone technology was another key feature ensuring clear sound quality by adjusting to ambient noise with two microphones inside and outside each earbud. This enabled users to enjoy smooth sound quality even during phone calls in noisy environments.

The portable Galaxy Buds boasted an extended battery life. These earbuds offered up to 6 hours of playback time or up to 5 hours of talk time on a single charge. Additionally, users could enjoy up to 13 hours of music playback with a dedicated charging case. Through the Galaxy S10’s Wireless PowerShare feature, the Galaxy Buds could also be charged using the smartphone.

[2020] Galaxy Buds+

Enhanced Sound Clarity, Extended Usage Hours

Debuted in February 2020, the Galaxy Buds+ showcased improved sound quality. Featuring 2-way speakers with a tweeter for clear highs and a woofer for robust bass, these earbuds delivered a balanced sound experience. The incorporation of three microphones — one internally and two externally — minimized external noise while accurately capturing the user’s voice for clear communication in any setting.

The Galaxy Buds+ offered up to 11 hours of playtime on a single charge, with an additional 11 hours available with the charging case for a total of 22 hours. With compatibility across Android and iOS devices, a broader spectrum of users could enjoy the latest features of the Galaxy Buds+.

[2021] Galaxy Buds Pro

Advanced Noise Cancellation, Crafted from Eco-Friendly Materials

In response to the expanding wireless earbuds market, Samsung introduced the Galaxy Buds Pro in January 2021. Featuring premium performance, these wearables showcased intelligent Active Noise Canceling (ANC) technology — significantly diminishing background noise to allow users to adjust environmental sound levels. The Buds Pro automatically switched to Ambient sound mode and adjusted music volume upon detecting the user’s voice, enabling users to focus on desired audio by minimizing unwanted distractions.

To ensure unparalleled sound quality, Samsung revamped both the internal and external design. The new structure reduced the impact of wind for clearer tones, while the 2-way speaker system delivered dynamic audio throughout the sound spectrum. By integrating recycled polycarbonate (PC) into certain earbud components, the Galaxy Buds Pro maintained performance and robustness in a new, eco-conscious design.

[2021] Galaxy Buds2

Compact, Lightweight Earbuds Aligned with Daily Life

Samsung introduced the smallest and lightest earbuds in the Galaxy Buds series with the Galaxy Buds2 in August 2021. Weighing only 5 grams per earbud, these earbuds were ideal for users with active routines. Featuring 2-way dynamic speakers, Active Noise Canceling (ANC), and a novel machine learning-based solution that responded to varying noise levels, the Galaxy Buds2 effectively blocked out background noise during calls, ensuring a clear voice transmission to the recipient.

As earbuds are worn throughout the day, the Galaxy Buds2 offered ear tips in three sizes and an Earbud Fit Test to ensure optimal user comfort during extended wear. In case the earbuds didn’t fit snugly, the test result would indicate a “poor fit” and provide users with guidelines for adjustment. The Auto Switch feature facilitated seamless and convenient device switching between various Galaxy devices like smartphones, watches, or tablets without requiring disconnection from the Galaxy Buds2 each time.

[2022] Galaxy Buds2 Pro

Elevating Immersive Audio, Enhanced Connectivity Experience: Extending Seamless Connectivity

Launched in August 2022, the Galaxy Buds2 Pro heralded the most immersive sound experience within the Galaxy Buds series. Featuring High-Dynamic Range and wireless 24-bit high fidelity (Hi-Fi) audio, these earbuds revolutionized the way users engage with music. The 360 Audio Recording feature enabled users to vividly capture ambient sounds in smartphone-recorded videos, delivering multi-dimensional audio that immerses users as if they were physically present in the video.

The Galaxy Buds2 Pro were designed to be 15% smaller with an ergonomic build, enhancing user comfort while consuming media content. Beyond just mobile devices, these wearables could be connected to a Samsung TV and seamlessly switch back to a paired smartphone upon receiving a call during TV usage. After call completion, the earbuds would seamlessly reconnect to the TV.

Upcoming Galaxy Buds Evolution

In February, Samsung rolled out a software update for the Galaxy Buds series. Users can now experience the AI technology of the Galaxy S24 series along with various hands-free AI functionalities on the Galaxy Buds series. Furthermore, the update solidified the interconnected Samsung ecosystem by expanding connectivity between the Galaxy Buds series and diverse products including the Galaxy Book4 series, Samsung TVs, and more.

Although sound remains invisible, its ability to evoke emotions, trigger memories, and inspire individuals is undeniable. As the Galaxy Buds series continually adapts to cater to user values and requirements, Samsung is reshaping the auditory experience with earbuds that offer comfortable wearability, premium sound reproduction, and expansive connectivity. The Galaxy Buds series will persist as a friendly conduit — enabling users to immerse themselves in a realm of sound each time they don their earbuds.
