Blue Protocol, the stylish online RPG crafted by Bandai Namco Online, captured our attention nearly half a decade ago. During its inception, there was uncertainty surrounding the game’s potential launch in Western regions.

A significant shift occurred in December 2022 when Amazon Games revealed a partnership with Bandai Namco Online during The Game Awards to bring Blue Protocol to PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S|X beyond Japan’s borders.

While the game made its debut in Japan on June 14, 2023, the Western release was postponed to 2024 without much subsequent buzz. Interestingly, Amazon Games kept emphasizing its collaboration with NCSoft for Throne and Liberty (scheduled for September 17 release in the West) in press releases, sidelining any further mention of Blue Protocol. The latest update on the global website dates back to November 13, 2023.

Regrettably, these developments may be linked to a grim financial predicament. Recent reports indicate that Bandai Namco Online, a subsidiary of Bandai Namco Entertainment, has faced insolvency due to substantial financial setbacks. While this doesn’t necessarily imply an immediate halt in the game’s development, it certainly casts a shadow of doubt over its future prospects.

A recent livestream by the developers failed to shed light on the global launch status, focusing instead on forthcoming updates like the next Instalment in the main storyline, introduction of a new in-game region, a level cap increase up to 80, and the addition of new passive skills for each class featured in Blue Protocol.

We are monitoring updates from Japan with cautious optimism, bracing ourselves for any potential unfortunate outcomes concerning the game’s fate.
