Loongson 9A2000: Comparable performance to RTX 2080 on a Chinese graphics card?

Share it

China is steadily advancing in the realm of semiconductors, with Loongson, a company previously mentioned, revealing plans for a new graphics card. The upcoming model, Loongson 9A2000, is touted to deliver performance comparable to that of the RTX 2080!

Will the Loongson 9A2000 mark genuine Chinese competition finally emerging? Details on this card are scarce at the moment, but the company claims that it will match the performance of the RTX 2080. Despite the RTX 2080 being launched back in September 2018, it remains a potent card capable of delivering smooth gameplay for 1080p titles, as per Wccftech. If the new Chinese GPU can truly rival this established model, it would signify a significant advancement for China in this sector.

Recently, Moore Threads has been offering fully domestic GPUs from China. However, the release of MTT S80 was disappointing with abysmal performance, high power consumption, and excessive heat generation. While there have been substantial improvements since then, they have not yet posed a threat to NVIDIA.

Loongson currently provides the 9A1000 GPU, noted for performance similar to AMD’s RX 550. The potential leap in performance with the new model could be upwards of 8 to 10 times the current capability.

Looking ahead, expectations are high for the upcoming 9A3000 model, a refined version of the 9A2000 with enhancements in the manufacturing process and architecture. Anticipated improvements include increased performance and reduced power consumption and heat generation. Furthermore, the 3B6600 CPU is slated to be an 8-core processor capable of rivaling Intel’s twelfth-generation Core i processors.

China’s advancement in the semiconductor sector is evident, but it’s essential to remember that there can often be a significant gap between Chinese promises and actual outcomes. Perhaps just a strategic move 😉
