A recent development reveals that specific AMD MSI 600-series motherboards are now receiving the latest AGESA 1.2.0.1 firmware. This update brings forth a new option, allowing users to increase the Thermal Design Power to 105W for both the Ryzen 7 9700X and the Ryzen 5 9600X processors.
While this adjustment is not officially endorsed by AMD, MSI is implementing this feature on select motherboards. Testing conducted by Kuroberu (via Wccftech) on an X670E MPG Carbon motherboard showcased significant performance boosts, especially for the AMD Ryzen 7 9700X, which originally operates at a 65W TDP. Results indicate that enabling the 105W TDP option could potentially elevate performance levels, with reported improvements such as a 13% increase in the Cinbench R23 multi-core score (from 20,409 to 23,153).
Although there is no official word from AMD yet on the TDP adjustment feature, rumors suggest that it could potentially become an official setting in the upcoming AGESA 1.2.0.2 release.
Expectations are high for the inclusion of this functionality in future BIOS updates from other motherboard manufacturers, possibly starting as beta versions initially, with stable releases rolling out a few months later.
