On Wednesday, PwC secured a partnership with OpenAI to serve as the primary distributor of the artificial intelligence company’s services and the most significant corporate customer. The notable deal ensures that PwC’s employees and clients in the United States and the United Kingdom will have access to OpenAI’s cutting-edge technologies.

The agreement involves offering ChatGPT Enterprise, the business-oriented variant of OpenAI’s generative AI chatbot, to PwC’s workforce and clients, marking a significant step in expanding technology integration within the enterprise and enhancing AI capabilities to drive impactful solutions for clients.

Under the terms of the agreement, PwC’s employees and clients in the U.S. and the U.K. will benefit from the latest offerings from OpenAI, which include innovations like the recently unveiled ChatGPT-4o model and enhanced features focused on voice and image processing.

PwC intends to distribute ChatGPT Enterprise licenses to more than 100,000 employees, with a majority based in the U.S. and the U.K. This strategic collaboration positions PwC as a pioneer in leveraging ChatGPT Enterprise to streamline operations and deliver enhanced client services.

While financial specifics of the deal were not disclosed by PwC, the partnership signifies a significant milestone in facilitating the integration of AI technologies within the firm’s operations and client engagements.

Capitalizing on AI Innovations

This agreement marks OpenAI’s foray into a resale model for its AI solutions, aiming to generate revenue amidst substantial operational costs associated with generative AI technologies. To offset losses, OpenAI has shifted its focus towards premium subscriptions and enterprise sales to monetize its AI offerings effectively.

In a strategic move, OpenAI introduced ChatGPT Plus, a paid version of its popular chatbot, in February 2023, followed by the launch of ChatGPT Enterprise in August of the same year, tailored for heightened security and targeted at corporate clients.

The collaboration with PwC aligns with the firm’s broader AI strategy, which includes a substantial investment of $1 billion over three years to bolster its AI capabilities. PwC has been actively developing customized GPT models to enhance operational efficiency, such as assisting in tax return reviews, proposal generation, and report creation.

Furthermore, PwC has facilitated the adoption of generative AI among its clientele, identifying and implementing over 3,000 internal use cases across various sectors to drive innovation and efficiency.

Overall, the partnership between PwC and OpenAI symbolizes a strategic alliance aimed at leveraging cutting-edge AI technologies to drive operational excellence and deliver enhanced services to clients in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.
