PSVR 2 Headset Receives Discount of $200

In 2023, the PSVR 2 virtual reality headset was introduced to the market. However, in comparison to other VR headsets, it did not attract as many buyers. Recently, an additional expense was introduced for PC compatibility, where users need to buy an adapter priced at $60 to connect the headset to their computers, adding to the already high cost of the device.

Despite these challenges, major retailers have slashed the price of the PSVR 2 from $549.99 to $349.99, making it a more budget-friendly option for potential customers. Consequently, the PSVR 2 now offers a more economical choice compared to the Meta Quest headset, which starts at $449.99 and is more popular in the market.

Sony is currently in the process of pushing out existing PSVR 2 stock due to lackluster initial sales performance. For those eyeing this headset for PC usage, the required adapter will not be accessible until August 2024, potentially leaving your headset idle if you don’t own a PlayStation 5.

Initial user reviews for the PSVR 2 were mostly negative, particularly after its first year on the shelves. The scarcity of compatible games and the absence of backward compatibility received criticism. Nonetheless, the hardware itself garnered positive feedback for its impeccable graphics quality and vivid colors displayed through the lenses.

If you’re considering getting your hands on the PSVR 2 headset, the discounted price will be valid until August 6, after which it is expected to revert. Additionally, an option to procure the PSVR 2 bundled with the game Horizon: Call of the Mountain is available at $399.99.

Notably, in June 2024, Sony announced the discontinuation of all future funding and development support for the PSVR 2, signaling the end of ongoing game support. While current game compatibility remains, technical assistance for the PSVR 2 is uncertain with Sony terminating all support systems.

According to a report from Android Central, Sony is cutting back on VR game funding, drastically reducing opportunities for future VR game development.

The outlook for consumer support concerning the PSVR 2 adapter, communication channels with Sony, and the compatibility of forthcoming games with the device remains unclear.
