Radeon 890M embedded graphics – 1080p performance evaluations, FidelityFX Super Resolution and supplementary functionalities!

Presently we are diving deeper into the Radeon 890M iGPU housed within the new AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 Central Processing Unit. Mat had previously assessed the ASUS Zenbook S 16 notebook using this CPU towards the end of July, so this isn’t our initial hands-on encounter with the device. However, today’s focus is solely on one thing – gaming on the 890M!

Testing Overview

Our testing approach today diverges from the traditional style, as we’re not showcasing an array of benchmark charts. Instead, I captured various games, running at different image quality settings, some with and some without FSR, to provide a ‘real-world’ perspective on the gaming performance offered by this iGPU. This is challenging to convey in written form, so I strongly suggest watching the video above to witness how this iGPU performs. Each game tested has been timestamped for convenient navigation to specific titles of interest.

In brief, we are extremely impressed with the capabilities of the Radeon 890M. Many tested games delivered highly playable performance, some even at High settings like Forza Horizon 5 and F1 23. While it’s important to remember this is still an iGPU, the results for on-the-go gaming with a low power chip are undeniably commendable.

Furthermore, it’s noteworthy that the ASUS Zenbook S 16 utilized in the tests caps at around 33W power for the CPU, and we are aware that the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 is also available in higher power variants, which would naturally impact the iGPU’s performance. I’m particularly curious to observe how performance scales downwards, especially concerning handheld devices that typically operate at just 10-15W. This exploration will have to be reserved for another time, but for now, the 890M demonstrates remarkable performance in its current form.
