Witnessed at Gamescom 2024, Dune: Awakening was a highlighted game with an announcement of its Early 2025 release. A glimpse into the game through a 5-minute exclusive gameplay reveal took place during Gamescom Opening Night Live, while a further 30 minutes of gameplay will be presented later in the event week.
The Dune: Awakening teaser showcases the player’s progression from scavenging and survival to leading a guild on a quest for spice. Players are thrust into a scorching desert, navigating massive sandworms and battling extreme heat, all while adopting the survival skills of the Fremen.
In Dune: Awakening, players can expand their influence through various means, including combat, managing spice, and upgrading bases. Players have the choice to evolve their character by following paths such as Mentat, Trooper, Planetologist, Swordmaster, or Bene Gesserit.
Control of the spice is pivotal in maintaining power amidst ongoing warfare. By aligning with either House Harkonnen or Atreides, players engage in dynamic guild battles vying for spice, utilizing diverse vehicles, technology, and specialized fighters.
Attendees of the Gamescom event were greeted by a towering Sandworm sculpture guiding them to the Dune: Awakening booth for an extended 30-minute gameplay demo and a Fremkit goodie bag. Journalists and creators also had the opportunity to test a demo of the game during Gamescom, allowing them to share their insights with the wider audience.
Various content creators like Sacriel, Alphacast, and Mowky will exhibit the 30-minute gameplay presentation of Dune: Awakening in the upcoming days, offering different perspectives of the gameplay.
While the initial release of Dune: Awakening in early 2025 will be on PC, the game will extend to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S later. Fans can enlist for the game on PC and consoles via the official website for a chance to join the closed Beta.
Funcom has disclosed that a third Dune: Awakening Direct will be aired on August 29, offering more gameplay footage and insights into the game’s features, hosted by Soe Gschwind.
