Share it

Samsung Electronics, a global leader in advanced semiconductor technology, revealed its most recent foundry innovations and presented its vision for the AI epoch at Samsung Foundry Forum (SFF) U.S., a yearly gathering held at the firm’s Device Solutions America headquarters in San Jose, California.

The event themed “Empowering the AI Revolution” announced two fresh cutting-edge nodes – SF2Z and SF4U – alongside the integrated Samsung AI Solutions platform that leverages the unique advantages of its Foundry, Memory, and Advanced Package (AVP) sectors to cater to the growing AI demand.

Dr. Siyoung Choi, President and Head of Foundry Business at Samsung Electronics, emphasized the significance of high-performance, low-power semiconductors in implementing AI technologies, particularly highlighting the company’s plans for high-speed, low-power data processing through integrated, co-packaged optics (CPO) technology.

Distinguished industry figures including Arm CEO Rene Haas and Groq CEO Jonathan Ross showcased robust partnerships with Samsung to address new AI challenges. The event also brought together around 30 partner companies to accentuate the dynamic collaboration within the U.S. foundry ecosystem.

Empowering Customer AI Solutions With Cutting-Edge Process Technology Roadmap

Samsung introduced two new process nodes, SF2Z and SF4U, solidifying its position in leading-edge process technology development.

The SF2Z, a 2nm process, integrates optimized backside power delivery network (BSPDN) technology to enhance power, performance, and area (PPA) compared to its predecessor SF2. The SF4U, a high-value 4nm variant, offers PPA enhancements through optical shrink. Samsung also reaffirmed its progress on SF1.4 (1.4nm), with plans for mass production in 2027.

Advancing Gate-All-Around (GAA) Technology Maturity

Recognizing the importance of GAA technology in meeting AI demands, Samsung highlighted the maturity of its GAA process at SFF, stressing continuous advancements in yield and performance. The company aims to mass produce its second-generation 3nm process (SF3) and deliver GAA on its upcoming 2nm process.

Fostering Cross-Company Collaborations for Comprehensive Samsung AI Solutions

Among the highlights was the introduction of Samsung AI Solutions, a holistic AI platform resulting from collaborative efforts across Samsung’s Foundry, Memory, and AVP sectors. The platform offers tailored high-performance, low-power, and high-bandwidth solutions.

Expanding Customer Base and Application Diversity for a Well-Rounded Technology Portfolio

Samsung is actively diversifying its customer base and application fields to meet evolving market demands. With advancements in leading-edge nodes and specialty wafer derivatives, the company is catering to customer needs across various sectors including automotive, medical, wearable, and IoT applications.

Converging AI and Technology for Collective Growth in the Foundry Ecosystem

Building on the momentum of the SFF event, Samsung will host the annual Samsung Advanced Foundry Ecosystem (SAFE™) Forum, emphasizing collaborative technologies and solutions tailored for AI.

The event will feature industry leaders discussing chip and system design technologies, along with the inaugural Multi-Die Integration (MDI) Alliance workshop to foster partnerships and a shared vision for future solutions development.
