Ubisoft has at last verified the official release date for Beyond Good and Evil 20th Anniversary Edition. Initially revealed by Ubisoft in the latter part of 2023, this game will make its debut on June 25 for PlayStation 5 & PlayStation 4, Xbox Series S|X, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Amazon Luna, and PC via the Ubisoft Store, Epic Games Store, and Steam. Limited Run Games will also be producing a physical edition and a Collector’s Edition, with pre-orders scheduled to commence on July 12.

The development of this project was undertaken by Virtuos Games under the supervision of Ubisoft Montpellier, the current custodian of the franchise. Although not a complete remaster, this edition will provide numerous enhancements, as outlined in the official overview.

Players will have the opportunity to explore the innovative Action-Adventure game by immersing themselves in the delightfully peculiar maritime world of Hillys in the optimal manner, featuring improved performances of up to 4k, 60fps, and various quality of life enhancements including autosave, cutscene-skip, full controller, keyboard & mouse support, and cross-save functionality across all platforms.

Additionally, the Beyond Good & Evil – 20th Anniversary Edition will incorporate a new Speedrun Mode to challenge players, over 20 new achievements, and an Anniversary Gallery that delves deeply into the game’s developmental history, showcasing numerous never-before-seen artworks, videos, and much more.

Furthermore, this special edition will include a hunt where players can delve deeper into Jade’s backstory and acquire exclusive cosmetic rewards. This exclusive new mission also unveils further narrative ties to Beyond Good & Evil 2, underscoring Ubisoft’s steadfast dedication to the franchise.

It is worth noting the intriguing aspect of this final point. The launch of Beyond Good & Evil 20th Anniversary Edition appears to signal Ubisoft’s commitment to the franchise. However, Beyond Good & Evil 2 has faced extensive delays, ranking as one of the most prolonged delays in the gaming industry. The prequel was initially announced in 2008, then shelved, re-emerged in 2017, and subsequently went silent once more. The project encountered setbacks when creator Michel Ancel retired from the industry in September 2020, and suffered another blow in July 2023 with the sudden passing of creative director Emile More at the age of 40.

In August 2022, insider Tom Henderson indicated that the game remained several years away from being ready for launch, and it was conspicuously absent from the Ubisoft Forward showcase earlier this month.
