The director of Final Fantasy 16 predicts that upcoming Final Fantasy games will likely debut on PC the moment they are released.

The impending PC release date for Final Fantasy 16 is drawing near. This marks a significant moment for those who game on computer following the period where the game was exclusively on PlayStation 5 for a year. PC players can now anticipate engaging in the epic battles against the Eikons on PC starting in September, with both downloadable contents available for purchase right from the start.

During an interaction with GamesRadar+, Hiroshi Takai, the Director of Final Fantasy 16, delved into the reasoning behind opting to release Final Fantasy 16 on PC later than simultaneously with the PlayStation 5 version upon its initial launch.

When inquired whether fans of the enduring franchise may witness future Final Fantasy releases on computer on the very first day, Takai expressed, “I think that’s possible—probably even likely,” and added, “That said, the team overseeing each project has the authority to determine its own approach, so this is merely my personal perspective.”

It’s somewhat unexpected to learn that the development team has the liberty to go for a console-exclusive launch and that the higher-ups opt not to impose their decisions. Nonetheless, it’s probable that extensive discussions take place where the senior figures wield some form of influence throughout the deliberations.

Although Hiroshi Takai clarified that these views are personal, they resonate with Square Enix’s stance, particularly when observing the content of their financial presentations. For instance, in the previous fiscal year’s financial presentation, Square Enix talked about transitioning their approach to focus more on quality rather than quantity as they “vigorously pursue a multiplatform strategy.”

Considering the latest releases, such as Final Fantasy 16 and Final Fantasy 7 REBIRTH, both being exclusive to PlayStation 5, it raises the question of whether future segments of Final Fantasy 7 will remain exclusive to PlayStation 5 or whether the audience can anticipate a PC release as well. The most recent installment of the Final Fantasy 7 remake is yet to make its way to PC, and there is currently no information available regarding its PC availability. However, given that the others have been ported to PC, it’s reasonable to assume that it will happen in due course.

Nevertheless, historical data suggests that Square Enix’s game ports to PC have encountered some glitches. While the release of Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade was a notable success, it doesn’t imply that it was devoid of issues. If the PC port of Final Fantasy 16 proves to be successful, it could pave the way for Square Enix to simultaneously release future games on PC along with PlayStation 5.
