In a recent revelation by Gearbox’s CEO, Randy Pitchford, it seems that the next installment in the acclaimed Borderlands series is on the horizon and fans may not have to endure a lengthy wait.
During an interview with GamesRadar, Pitchford acknowledged the eager anticipation of fans for the next chapter in the franchise. Assuring fans, he hinted at an impending announcement regarding the future of the series, stating:
Our team has been hard at work on multiple ambitious projects, and I am confident that our dedicated fanbase will be thrilled with our upcoming video game endeavor. Rest assured, the wait for our announcement will not be prolonged.
While 2022 saw the releases of “Tales from the Borderlands” and “Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands,” the core series has remained dormant since the launch of Borderlands 3 in 2019. Initial buzz surrounding a possible Borderlands 4 unveiling at 2K Games’ Summer Game Fest proved to be unfounded, dampening the excitement.
However, Pitchford’s recent statements have reignited hope within the community, particularly for enthusiasts of the “Wonderlands” universe. Hinting at a continuation of this successful spin-off, he emphasized the positive reception it received:
Our foray into the Wonderlands universe surpassed our initial Borderlands entry, providing a solid foundation for future endeavors. Fantasy holds a special place in our hearts, evident from our past projects like the Dragon Keep DLC for Borderlands 2. The allure of fantasy within the Borderlands universe presents endless creative opportunities for us.
Although details regarding a release date or official showcase remain under wraps for now, Pitchford assured fans that the wait will be brief. In the meantime, fans can look forward to the upcoming Borderlands film, scheduled to hit theaters on August 9th in the US.
