An established hardware leaker unveiled some fascinating insights in recent updates regarding Nvidia’s upcoming graphics cards. The forthcoming GeForce RTX series, codenamed Blackwell, is expected to come with a higher power usage, leading to a wave of speculation within the community.

Kopite7kimi has affirmed what the leaker regards as the power consumption estimations for two RTX 50 series GPUs, laying to rest much of the discussion and uncertainty surrounding the initial information release. It has been verified that the flagship model, recognized as RTX 5090, might potentially use up to 600W (an increase of 150W compared to the RTX 4090), while the RTX 5080 is likely to function around 400W (80W more than the RTX 4080).

It’s currently uncertain whether the term “power consumption” pertains to TDP (Thermal Design Power) or TGP (Total Graphics Power). Similar rumours in the past surrounding the RTX 4090’s TDP were eventually credited to TGP instead. Therefore, these values might also represent TGP.

In a different report from Kopite7kimi relayed by VideoCardz, the leaker suggested that Nvidia’s performance goal for the RTX 5080 is to be 10% quicker than the RTX 4090. However, further specifics on whether this enhancement relates to overall, raster, or ray-tracing performance still require clarification. Looking forward, the RTX 50 series is anticipated for a potential launch by the end of this year, with certain speculations hinting at a potential delay in the actual release date, potentially extending into 2025.
