PlayStation’s chief architect, Mark Cerny, introduced the highly-anticipated PS5 Pro during a brief livestream earlier today. The unveiling was concise, lasting just a brief 5-minute presentation focusing on the upgraded hardware, followed by a montage showcasing upcoming games optimized for the enhanced capabilities of the PS5 Pro.

The key highlight of the PS5 Pro is its larger GPU, offering a remarkable 45% increase in rendering speed. Sony opted to only enhance the GPU component of the System on a Chip (SoC), leveraging additional cores and RT Units to deliver improved performance. Noteworthy upgrades include significantly enhanced ray-tracing performance, up to 3 times faster, and the integration of PSSR upscaling technology, akin to Sony’s proprietary FSR. This technology employs AI to enhance pixel details for crisper visuals on high-resolution screens while bolstering overall performance.

Early game titles set to receive upgrades for the PS5 Pro include:

  • Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth
  • Horizon Forbidden West
  • The Last of Us Part 2
  • Demon Souls
  • Ratchet and Clank
  • Spider-Man 2
  • Ghost of Tsushima
  • God of War: Ragnarok
  • Gran Turismo 7
  • Hogwarts Legacy
  • Star Wars Jedi: Survivor
  • Forspoken
  • Alan Wake 2

However, the standout detail about the PS5 Pro is its premium price point of £700. While the cost may seem steep, it offers top-notch performance enhancements. Notably, the base PS5 Pro model excludes a disc drive, requiring an additional investment for Sony’s optional disc-drive accessory. Additionally, a vertical stand is not included, necessitating a separate purchase. On a positive note, the PS5 Pro features an increased 2TB SSD for expanding game storage.

The PS5 Pro is slated for release on the 7th of November.
