At Gamescom 2024, NVIDIA unveiled plans for Dragon Age: The Veilguard to incorporate ray tracing effects on PC in addition to DLSS 3 (Super Resolution and Frame Generation). The developer delved further into PC features, confirming support for other upscalers like AMD FSR 2.2, Intel XeSS, Ultrawide displays, uncapped frame rates, and a Field of View slider despite the third-person view. Ray tracing options discussed included ray traced reflections, ray traced ambient occlusion, and Ultra ray tracing.

Early access to Dragon Age: The Veilguard at Gamescom showcased the ray tracing effects on a laptop at the NVIDIA booth. The Ultra RT settings only enhance ray traced reflections and ambient occlusion but significantly elevate the game’s visual appeal. Despite the demanding effects, the game operated smoothly on a high-powered laptop equipped with an RTX 4090 mobile GPU, akin to an RTX 4080 desktop GPU.

Exciting news broke that Dragon Age: The Veilguard will introduce ray tracing on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X consoles. Specific details remain undisclosed, sparking curiosity about which features will be optimized for console performance. With the game set to launch in just over two months, the anticipation for console ray tracing capabilities is mounting.

To cater to the console limitations in rendering ray tracing effects, BioWare might focus primarily on enhancing reflections for a more polished visual experience. The grounded look from ray traced ambient occlusion is appreciated, hinting at potential enhancements in console gameplay. Keep an eye out for official updates as the game’s release draws near.
