There are currently no plans for a Banjo-Kazooie game on Xbox.

Since the Microsoft acquisition of Rare in 2002, enthusiasts have been clamoring for a revival of its distinctive properties, including Conker and Banjo-Kazooie.

In the initial years post-acquisition, Xbox did explore opportunities with these franchises. Rare launched Conker: Live & Reloaded, a remake of Conker: Bad Fur Day, for the original Xbox in 2005. Banjo-Kazooie supporters had to wait until 2008 for the introduction of Nuts & Bolts on the Xbox 360.

However, Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts took a significantly different direction from the previous platform games. This installment focused more on vehicle design and construction (leverage Havok physics) rather than the traditional platforming elements. While the crafting aspect was innovative for its time, the game fell short in sales compared to the expectations of Microsoft and Rare.

To date, Nuts & Bolts stands as the most recent addition to the series. Although it was included in Rare’s Replay in 2015 for their 30th anniversary, there have been no new developments for Banjo-Kazooie fans from Rare, except for the Bear & Bird Figurehead addition in Sea of Thieves. Fortunately, some former Rare developers established Playtonic and created a popular spiritual successor, Yooka-Laylee, now receiving a remastered edition titled Yooka-Replaylee featuring enhanced visuals, animations, moves, camera, controls, and soundtrack.

Is there any intention from Rare or Microsoft to revisit Banjo-Kazooie? According to Jez Corden from Windows Central, there are no such plans whatsoever. In a recent segment on the XB2+1 podcast, he emphatically expressed:

I can affirm unequivocally that no Banjo game is being developed. As of this podcast recording time, there is no Banjo game in development.

Rare is currently occupied with the ongoing support for Sea of Thieves, notably after its launch on PlayStation, and the enigmatic development of Everwild. If there were any plans to pursue an IP-based game, Microsoft would need to collaborate with an external studio.

Would you be interested in seeing the iconic duo return in some form, or should they reminisce in the nostalgia of the past?
