After years of waiting and pleading from fans, Ubisoft has finally delved into the world of Feudal Japan with a fresh narrative and a dual lead setup in Assassin’s Creed Silhouettes. Closing out the Ubisoft Forward showcase and one of the final features of Summer Game Fest’s Play Days, Ubisoft granted viewers an exclusive behind-the-scenes view of Assassin’s Creed Silhouettes.

The demonstration on PlayStation 5 provided an intimate glimpse into the initial assassination quest featuring Yasuke, characterized as the more impulsive and overtly honorable of the two main characters. Substantially taller than the average Japanese locals, Yasuke’s presence stands out in the streets of Fukuchiyama. Ubisoft Quebec highlighted his lack of social stealth due to his distinct physical appearance. The blend of traditional Japanese music with modern hip-hop beats during combat sequences adds a unique flair to the gameplay.

The latter segment of the showcase diverged significantly from the preview at Ubisoft Forward, showcasing a mission centered on infiltrating a castle to eliminate a supposedly corrupt Lord Hayashi. The user interface provided subtle cues about the target’s habits rather than a straightforward map marker. Players had to gather intelligence by listening to conversations, ultimately discovering the lord’s routine of strolling through the garden at night due to his insomnia.

Assassin’s Creed Silhouettes introduces a fresh gameplay approach with Yasuke, where agility is exchanged for sheer power. Yasuke’s arsenal includes a matchlock tanegashima rifle capable of piercing armor and bones effortlessly, in contrast to the usual stealth tactics associated with assassins. His combat style is ruthless, wielding a hefty studded club that crushes enemies with each swing and special abilities on cooldown to diversify his attacks.

Conversely, Naoe embodies a more refined approach to assassination. Armed with a hidden blade, a shorter katana, and a chain-and-sickle weapon called kusarigama, Naoe focuses on finesse and precision. Her agility allows her to evade attacks and strategically strike opponents, introducing a contrast to Yasuke’s brute force tactics.

Ubisoft Quebec has meticulously crafted the world of Assassin’s Creed Silhouettes, set to hit stores on November 15th, 2024, across various platforms including PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S|X, PC, and Mac. Fans eagerly await the opportunity to immerse themselves in this captivating open-world action-adventure.
