After the recent 9.11 release, the Wine Project, famous for enabling Linux and macOS users to utilize Windows applications, has unveiled Wine 9.12.
The key highlight in this release is the advanced support for user32 data structures in shared memory, a technical improvement expected to enhance the performance and efficiency of applications running on Wine.
Furthermore, a significant update includes the Mono engine, which is responsible for executing .NET applications within the Wine environment, now updated to version 9.2.0.
Wine 9.12 also showcases a complete overhaul of the CMD.EXE engine. This overhaul aims to boost compatibility and functionality of command-line operations in the Wine environment, crucial for developers and administrators relying on command-line scripts and tools.
Alongside new features, Wine 9.12 addresses various issues, including fixing the handling of async I/O status in the new WoW64 mode. This release incorporates 24 bug fixes, enhancing Wine’s overall stability and usability, ensuring a smoother user experience.
To obtain Wine 9.12’s source code, it can be downloaded from GitLab’s project page for those interested in testing or upgrading their current installation. Binary packages for multiple distributions are anticipated to be available soon. For additional information, visit the announcement.
