Netflix has disclosed the official title for Knives Out 3 – and supporters are already channeling their inner investigator to attempt to unravel its implications.
Unveiled today (May 24) by the world’s leading streaming platform, the upcoming Netflix film’s fresh title is Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery. The enigma’s new label was also unveiled through a tweet on X/Twitter by Rian Johnson, the director of the initial two installments in the Knives Out series. The tweet additionally confirmed that Wake Up Dead Man is scheduled to debut on Netflix at some point in 2025.

The trailer commences with a narration from the quirky detective Benoit Blanc, played by Daniel Craig in the initial two Knives Out films. In it – and in his signature theatrical manner – he asserts: “Initially, the knives were exposed. Subsequently, lo and behold! The glass was broken… however, my most perilous case yet is on the brink of being unveiled” before the animated visuals confirm the film’s official title and its inclusion among Netflix’s new movies of 2025.
No additional specifics were disclosed about Wake Up Dead Man, except for the affirmation – as if any was required – that Craig will reprise his role as Blanc for the third time in the movie’s leading role. Netflix’s only additional hint regarding Knives Out 3 was that Blanc would tackle “his most treacherous case yet”. Even with that foreboding teaser, audiences can anticipate a continuation of the same mix of humor, murder mystery, and unconventional storytelling from Johnson, Craig, and their associates.
Johnson is set to resume his roles as the writer, director, and potentially one of the numerous producers for Wake Up Dead Man. Joining forces with Johnson on the executive production side is his frequent collaborator Ram Bergman, who has been working alongside Johnson since their collaborative debut in the 2005 film Brick.
Further expanding on X/Twitter, Johnson disclosed that principal photography for Knives Out 3 was slated to commence. Given that its predecessor was filmed in a mere 78-day span – between late June and mid-September 2021 – there is a possibility that Wake Up Dead Man might follow a similarly expedited production schedule. Should this be the case, it is plausible for Knives Out 3 to make its Netflix debut by mid-2025.
We are on the brink of starting production on the third installment, and I am exceedingly eager to unveil the title, which hints slightly at its trajectory.May 24, 2024
