Excited about Chrome’s Memory Saver feature? Google is planning to offer users greater flexibility in adjusting its aggressiveness.

Google introduced the Memory Saver feature to its Chrome browser in February 2023 and has been enhancing it ever since. Now a new option will give users even more control over Memory Saver by introducing a way to configure its aggressiveness.

According to Windows Report, a recently discovered flag in Chrome Canary shows that Google is testing out a feature that will give users three options for Memory Saver: Conservative, Medium, and Aggressive. This enhancement will allow users to select the level of memory savings based on their preferences and usage patterns.

Once the toggle setting is enabled, users will have access to three settings: Moderate Memory Savings, Balanced Memory Savings, and Maximum Memory Savings. Each setting provides a different level of aggressiveness in managing inactive tabs to optimize memory usage.

Google is also adding a new visual cue for inactive tabs, a dotted circle that will appear on tabs to indicate that they’ve been put to sleep and are no longer consuming memory. This visual indicator will help users easily identify which tabs are inactive and how Memory Saver is optimizing their browser’s performance.

The tech giant has been extensively testing the enhanced Memory Saver tool, experimenting with different modes and options to refine the feature. While there is no specific timeline for the rollout of this update to all Chrome users, it is expected that users will be able to access it through the performance settings at chrome://settings/performance once it is officially launched.
