Gardens, a respected game development studio known for its involvement in titles like Diablo IV, Skyrim, Journey, Firewatch, among others, has joined forces with Pragma, the backend game engine behind major live-service games, to enhance the online multiplayer capabilities of their latest gaming venture. Pragma’s portfolio includes successful projects such as League of Legends, Destiny 2, and Plants vs Zombies 2.

Through this partnership, Gardens can focus on advancing their undisclosed game without being hindered by technical constraints. Serge Knystautas, Gardens Interactive’s Head of Engineering, expressed enthusiasm about collaborating with Pragma, stating, “Working with our game designers to implement their ideas has been a fantastic experience. Thanks to Pragma, I now have the flexibility to tailor solutions to their unique requirements, avoiding a one-size-fits-all approach.”

By leveraging Pragma’s backend game engine, Gardens can easily expand their platform without starting from scratch or allocating excessive resources to maintenance. The Pragma solution equips developers with a unified backend system that remains stable and provides essential features for online live service games. Moreover, Gardens has the liberty to customize these tools according to their preferences, ensuring a tailored and efficient development process.

While details regarding Gardens’ upcoming project remain scarce, the game promises to build upon the team’s expertise in creating shared online experiences. Players can anticipate engaging in shape-shifting adventures and exploring fantastical realms together. The company is gradually unveiling more information about the title as they approach the official announcement, generating excitement among gaming enthusiasts.

Some team members involved in this project have previously worked on games like Sky: Children of the Light and Journey, both renown for their innovative approaches to live-service online gameplay.

Gardens, co-founded in 2021 by Chriss Bell, Lexie Dostal, and Stephen Bell, has undergone significant growth since its establishment. The studio secured $4.5 million in funding during a Seed round led by Transcend Fund in July 2021. Subsequently, they raised $31.1 million in Series A funding, with Lightspeed Venture Partners and Krafton spearheading the investment.
