The color ereaders market has been revolutionized with the introduction of the Kobo Libra Colour and Kobo Clara Colour. While other brands like Onyx and PocketBook have been offering color ereaders, Kobo’s latest models have taken the innovation a step further by incorporating the E Ink Kaleido 3 technology, providing users with 4,096 hues on their displays.

Balancing features and price

One of the standout models is the Kobo Libra Colour, an enhanced version of the already acclaimed Kobo Libra 2. With a 7-inch screen size and improved processing power, the Libra Colour now offers over 4,000 colors and writing capabilities. The inclusion of a 2GHz CPU and a larger battery makes it a compelling upgrade for avid readers.

Despite the technological advancements, Kobo has managed to keep the pricing competitive, offering the Libra Colour for $219.99 with the option to purchase a compatible stylus for enhanced functionality. This puts Kobo ahead of its competitors in terms of value for money.

The Kobo Clara Colour, priced at $149.99, offers a budget-friendly alternative with a 6-inch screen, 16GB of internal storage, and Bluetooth connectivity. While lacking writing features, it still provides an affordable entry point into the world of color ereaders.

Double the Clara charm

In addition to the color ereaders, Kobo has introduced the Kobo Clara BW, a monochrome device featuring the latest E Ink Carta 1300 screen technology. With improved contrast and a better refresh rate, this model is tailored for readers who prefer traditional e-ink displays.

Making reading better for the planet

Moreover, Kobo’s commitment to sustainability is evident in the design of their ereaders. Using recycled and ocean-bound plastics for device construction and eco-friendly packaging, Kobo aims to reduce its environmental impact. The IPX8 waterproofing adds durability to the devices, ensuring they remain functional even in wet conditions.

Kobo’s partnership with iFixit for a repairability initiative further emphasizes their focus on longevity and reducing electronic waste. The repairability program aims to provide users with the tools and resources to extend the lifespan of their devices, contributing to a more sustainable approach to technology consumption.
