Intel has recently unveiled a new series of AI processors named ‘Amston Lake’ Atom x7000RE, targeted towards edge computing applications and industrial-grade deep learning inference. These chips offer enhanced performance compared to the previous x6000RE series, with double the cores and higher graphics base frequency, all packed in a compact 6W–12W BGA package.
The x7000RE series is designed to provide robust multitasking capabilities, featuring up to eight E-cores, support for LPDDR5/DDR5/DDR4 memory, and up to nine PCIe 3.0 lanes. Intel emphasizes that these processors are built to endure extreme conditions, including temperature variations, shock, and vibration, making them suitable for deployment in challenging environments.
Embedded, industrial, and communication use
This new series of processors comprises four SKUs tailored for embedded, industrial, and communication applications in extended temperature environments. The x7211RE and x7213RE come with 2 cores and lower base frequencies, while the x7433RE offers 4 cores, and the x7835RE boasts 8 cores with higher base frequencies.
All four SKUs support GPU execution units of 16 or 32, along with features like Intel’s Time Coordinated Computing and Time-Sensitive Networking GbE capabilities. The x7000RE processors come equipped with integrated Intel UHD Graphics, Intel DL Boost, Intel AVX2 with INT8 support, and OpenVINO toolkit support.
According to Intel, these processors enable customers to deploy deep learning inference effectively at the industrial edge and in smart city applications. The chips are expected to enhance computer vision solutions with built-in AI functionalities and ecosystem-enabled camera modules, providing power-efficient performance for latency-sensitive workloads in robotics and automation.
