Recent reports suggest that the highly anticipated game, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2, will be limited to 30 frames per second on both the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S consoles. It has been confirmed that there will be no performance mode option available for players on these platforms. This news comes from a preview by German outlet GamePro, indicating that the game will have a dynamic resolution as well.

The visual effects director of Hellblade 2, Mark Slater-Tunstill, shared in an interview that despite the 30FPS cap, the gameplay experience should feel more “cinematic,” drawing a parallel to the frame rate of movies which are typically at 24 frames per second. The preview also mentions that the 30FPS lock does not negatively impact the overall gameplay experience, especially due to the slower and more deliberate nature of the game.

‘Hellblade 2’ is being developed using Unreal Engine 5, allowing for a high level of graphical fidelity thanks to the engine’s Nanite geometry system. This has enabled the developers at Ninja Theory to bring a realistic approach to the game and streamline the asset creation process, as detailed in a report from Polygon.

Scheduled to release on May 21 for Xbox Series X|S and PC, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 will continue the story of protagonist Senua as she embarks on a harrowing journey to confront the Vikings in Iceland who ravaged her home. The game was first announced by Ninja Theory in 2019, with gameplay trailers debuting at The Game Awards, giving fans a glimpse of the stunning visuals and intense narrative they can expect.
