Apple has finally set a date for the launch of its long-awaited new iPads after months – no, years! – of speculation. The company has started sending out invites for a “special Apple Event” on May 7. Although the invite doesn’t explicitly mention new iPads, the presence of the Apple Pencil in the accompanying illustration strongly suggests that iPad-related announcements are on the agenda.

Rumors suggest the headline reveal will be a new iPad Pro, featuring a supersized OLED display, an updated M3 chipset, and a repositioned front-facing camera. Additionally, two models of the iPad Air 6 are expected, with one potentially being a larger 12.9-inch variant. There’s also speculation about Apple debuting a new Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil alongside the new iPads.

Furthermore, there are talks about possible changes to the Apple Pencil, such as a slightly shorter design, a shinier surface, and magnetic, interchangeable tips. The prominence of the Apple Pencil in the event graphic adds weight to these speculations, hinting at significant updates to this accessory.

Apple’s invite marks the end of a long wait for new iPad models, as the last release was the iPad 10.9 (2022) in October 2022. Initial expectations were for new iPad Pros and iPad Airs to be announced on March 26. However, delays in OLED display production pushed the launch date to May 7, conveniently right before Apple’s WWDC 2024, starting on June 10.

For Apple enthusiasts, the upcoming months promise to be exciting with the imminent release of new iPads and potential updates to accessories like the Apple Pencil. The anticipation for the May 7 event continues to build as the tech community eagerly awaits the latest innovations from Apple.
