Samsung’s The Canvas Promotes Innovative Approaches to Art Exploration at Art Basel in Basel 2024 – Samsung Global Press Center

Diverse range of art encounters involve participatory workshops, real-time curator conversations, and magnificent showcases of artwork

Samsung Electronics today revealed it is displaying its The Canvas exhibition series at Art Basel in Basel 2024, functioning as the event’s primary visual presentation collaborator. This year’s exhibition is set from June 13 to 161 at Messe Basel exhibition center in Basel, Switzerland.

Initially established in 1970 by art dealers from Basel, Art Basel currently organizes the world’s foremost art expositions for present-day and modern art, held in Basel, Miami Beach, Hong Kong, and Paris. For the 2024 edition in Basel, Art Basel is assembling 285 major international art galleries from 40 nations to showcase works of the highest caliber in all forms – from paintings and sculptures to photography and digital creations – by artists spanning from early 20th-century modern visionaries to emerging modern-day practitioners. Art Basel is once again confirming its unmatched status as a platform for exploration and interactions that propel the art domain.

During Art Basel in Basel 2024, Samsung is leading the Samsung The Canvas Pavilion, an exclusive area for its contemporary art showcase, The Canvas, based on the concept “An Innovative Approach to Art Exploration.” Various models of The Canvas are exhibited both indoors and outdoors within a dedicated pavilion, as well as throughout the exhibition, to provide attendees with a range of vibrant visual encounters.

“By engaging as the premier visual presentation collaborator of Art Basel in Basel, The Canvas has solidified its status as the modern art showcase we all envision when it comes to digitally presenting art,” stated Cheolgi Kim, Executive Vice President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “We aim to offer more digital art experiences with The Canvas, contributing to the expansion of the art ecosystem and pushing the boundaries of technological integration in the art realm.”

Samsung’s dedicated pavilion features The Canvas Exhibit Wall, showcasing 14 editions of The Canvas exhibiting art pieces that emphasize their exceptional QLED 4K visual superiority. Within the pavilion, a Highlight Area displays the extensive assortment of exceptional artworks accessible on Samsung Art Depot, while an interactive area named “Locate The Canvas Zone” enables visitors to revel in discovering The Canvas integrated among genuine artworks, hung side by side.

The Canvas Pavilion is also hosting two real-time discussion sessions (titled “The Canvas & Conversate”) over two days, spearheaded by Daria Brit Greene, curator of Samsung Art Depot, Samsung’s digital art subscription platform. The initial discussion is with Angelle Siyang-Le, Director of Art Basel Hong Kong (June 11) and the second is with Irene Kim, Global Head of VIP Relations, constituent of the Art Basel Management Council (June 12). Participants can delve into the insights of these two Art Basel authorities on the art trend and key highlights of the exhibition, and also gain deeper understanding of the significance and objectives behind the collaboration with The Canvas.

Additionally, to commemorate The Canvas’s selection as Art Basel in Basel’s lead visual presentation collaborator, Samsung is organizing a gathering featuring distinguished influencers, including Fritz Proctor and Geneva Vanderzeil, giving them the chance to explore the expo and encounter The Canvas firsthand.

The Canvas was crafted with art at the forefront. When idle, the display can function as interior decoration by exhibiting art pieces or photographs on a first-rate, QLED 4K screen. And with its Matte Display, users can admire the art distinctly, even in well-lit rooms, lending it an even closer resemblance to an authentic masterpiece. Through Samsung Art Depot, subscribers gain access to over 2,500 artworks from renowned artists, museums, and industry influencers worldwide.
