According to recent rumors from South Korean outlet The Elec, the Apple Watch 10 could feature a more power-efficient OLED display, potentially leading to increased battery performance for the wearable device. This new display technology is said to utilize low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) thin-film transistor (TFT) technology, which could reduce the power consumption of the screen.

The use of LTPO technology allows for more precise control over each pixel’s illumination, potentially leading to better management of power draw and brightness levels on the Apple Watch 10. While users may not visually distinguish a difference from the previous model, the improved power efficiency should translate to extended battery life.

Industry giants LG and Samsung are expected to play a role in supplying the LTPO OLED screens for the Apple Watch 10. Although Samsung’s involvement may not happen until a later model, with potential collaboration starting around the release of the Apple Watch 11 in 2025.

LTPO OLED displays are not entirely new technology and are already in use in the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. These displays support features like an always-on display and variable refresh rates without significantly impacting battery performance. While current reports suggest LTPO technology will be exclusive to iPhone 16 Pro models in the near future, it could become more widespread in 2025 as manufacturing processes become more refined and cost-effective.

The anticipated release of the Apple Watch 10, along with the iPhone 16, is expected later this year, possibly in September. With the current Apple Watch 9 offering around 20 hours of battery life, any enhancements to battery performance on the Apple Watch 10 would be a welcome improvement for users.
