The CEO of Saber Interactive, Matthew Karch, has provided a new update on the highly anticipated Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake, confirming that the game is “alive and well.” Despite a period of radio silence and the studio’s recent split from Embracer Group, Karch assured fans in a recent interview with IGN that development on the game is still actively ongoing within the company.

Announced back in 2021 during the PlayStation Showcase, the KOTOR Remake captured the attention of fans with an exciting cinematic trailer. Initially, Aspyr Media worked on the game for three years before development faced a pause due to a lack of progress. However, the project was later passed over to Saber Interactive in August 2022 to carry it forward.

While there haven’t been any substantial development updates since the initial announcement, Karch’s affirmation of the game’s progress is a reassuring sign for eager fans. The game is slated to be a timed PS5 exclusive, with potential plans for a PC and Xbox Series X|S release in the future.

Despite rumors circulating last year about a possible halt in development after an original trailer was temporarily removed from Sony’s YouTube channel, it was clarified that the video’s disappearance was due to an expired license and not indicative of any project setbacks.

Following Saber Interactive’s split from Embracer Group and the reclaiming of its rights and studio projects, the company is currently overseeing a total of 38 projects, including the development of KOTOR Remake alongside titles like Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine 2.

With Karch’s recent reassurance that the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake is actively in progress, fans can remain hopeful for the revival of this beloved 2003 action role-playing game. While a release date remains uncertain at this time, the dedication of Saber Interactive to exceed consumer expectations bodes well for the future of the project.
