The upcoming budget camera from Fujifilm may feature unexpectedly strong hardware components.

Fujifilm’s next camera, the X-T50, has stirred excitement with leaked information suggesting it will boast in-body image stabilization (IBIS). This advanced feature, also present in the higher-end Fujifilm X-T5, is designed to minimize camera shake for sharper, clearer images. Additionally, the X-T50 is reported to house a 40 MP X-Trans V image sensor, potentially offering similar photography performance to the X-T5. However, as NotebookCheck points out, given that the X-T50 is positioned as a budget model, Fujifilm may strategically limit certain features to differentiate it from its premium counterpart.

NotebookCheck speculates that the X-T50 may incorporate older hardware such as the X Processor 4 instead of the newer X Processor 5. Certain functions, like the SD card slot, could be “significantly degraded,” possibly indicating only a single SD card slot on the device. These cost-cutting measures aim to keep the price of the X-T50 competitive in the market, appealing to budget-conscious consumers.

Possible pricing

Despite the potential hardware upgrades, the exact pricing of the X-T50 remains unknown. With features like the X-Trans sensor and IBIS, it is anticipated that the camera will be priced higher than the $900 X-T30 II. Fujifilm’s introduction of new technologies and enhancements in the X-T50 will likely contribute to its higher price point, even with possible cost-saving adjustments.

Enthusiasts eagerly awaiting more details on the X-T50 won’t have to wait long. According to Fuji Rumors, the camera is set to be officially announced on May 16 during Fujifilm’s X Summit event in Sydney, Australia. Alongside the X-T50, the event will showcase the Fujifilm GFX100SII and the Fujinon XF14-50mm f/2.8-4.8 kit lens. While details are scarce, previews of the lens indicate advanced features typically seen in higher-end lenses, including an internal zoom mechanism.
